Whether new to or familiar with chalk pastels, you’ll discover their vibrant character in this hands-on workshop. Purveyors of color and light, chalk pastels have powers that make them unique. I’ll help you get to know them and you’ll discover how much you can do with your vision and a few simple guidelines.

Let’s come together for art at Zephyr Maine’s beautiful barn studio classroom!

YOUR SKETCHBOOK JOURNAL

Friday, August 7, 2026

Location: Zephyr Maine studio classroom, Freeport, Maine

Come explore the world of sketchbook journaling, where anything goes. Sketch art is the portable, affordable and spontaneous way to discover, imagine and remember the visual world in and around us.

It all starts with a blank sketchbook and some essential drawing tools.  Learn the keys to working quickly and with confidence: observe, simplify, embellish and organize multiple images in a small-page format. We will indulge in scribbling, erasing, breathing and inventing; the sketchbook is both a workout and a playground.

All levels of experience are welcome. Art is community!

Liz brings her enthusiasm, artistry and incredible gifts to her teaching. She is able to inspire and work with each of  us, no matter how differently we approach our art. I feel completely met as an individual, being gently guided and challenged. Liz is an inspiring teacher who is open to discovery alongside her students.  M.M.

Student Testimonials

In addition to her vast and facile knowledge of all things art, Liz has a way of really seeing her students as she seeks to understand and support each person’s unique expression.  J.Y.

Liz is a fabulous artist who knows how to teach, a combination that I have come to value over the years I have been taking art classes.  She is kind and patient and she really knows her stuff.  N.G.
